The Black Male Leadership Association (BMLA) is a prestigously growing organization here in Lafayette at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette,  founded in October 2010. Since its founding, the organization has accomplished plenty,  beingn recognized at the Unviersity's annual Ragin' Recognition awards for Best New Organization (2013), Best Multicultural Program (2014), and Organization of the Year (2016). The organization is also known for its annual events, such as the Mr. & Ms. Umoja Scholarship Pageant and the Black Out March. BMLA also awards an annual scholarship to two high school seniors in the Lafayette area.

Outside of on-campus events, the organization remains active in the community, participating in the University's annual Big Event & Pink Pumpkin Week (for Breast Cancer Awareness month), Games of Acadiana, voter registration drives, and a food bank partnership with Paul Breaux Middle School.

Not only does the organization continue to grow in the community but we continue to instill leadership skills within our members. The organization hosts its annual Membership Development Day in the fall, as well as providing professional development sessions at the monthly meetings. Members also attend conferences such as LSU's Multicultural Student Leadership Conference and the Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference in College Station, Texas.

Overall, the organization lives by its mission: "To promote and provide opportunity for Black involvement and leadership on our campus, and work to enhance our communities with hard work and dedication to building a better world".
